This ishappening in richer countries as improved travel and communication networksmean that moving no longer means losing contract with friends and family. Inthe USA, many people choose to retire to Florida or California, both areas thatare famous for their sunshine. In Europe, the European Union means that movingfrom one country to another country is easy for a member. Many people fromBritain head for Spain when they retire, and Portugal is now becoming just aspopular. Cheap flights mean that getting to Spain by air can often be cheaperthan getting a train from London to Scotland! People from other northernEuropean countries, such as Holland and Germany, are also moving south. Croatiais very popular with Germans, whole family benefits from these moves—the olderparents are able to live in a warmer, healthier climate, while their childrenare able to visit them for cheap holidays in the sun!

12.How can we get rid of garbage? Do wehave enough energy sources to meet our future energy needs? These are twoimportant questions that many people are asking today. Some people think thatmen might be able to solve both problems at the same time. They suggest usinggarbage as an energy source. For a long time people buried garbage or dumped iton empty land. Now, empty land is scarce. But more and more garbage is producedeach year. But garbage can be a good fuel to use. The things in garbage do notlook like coal, petroleum, or natural gas; but they are chemically similar tothese fossil fuels. As we use up our fossil-fuel supplies, we might be able touse garbage as an energy source. Burning garbage is not a new idea. Some citiesin Europe and the United States have been burning garbage for years. The heatthat is produced by burning garbage is used to boil water. The steam that isproduced is used to make electricity or to heat nearby buildings. In Paris, France, some power plants burn almost 2 million metric tons of the city\'s garbage eachyear. The amount of energy produced is about the same as would be produced byburning almost a half million barrels of oil! But there are problems in usinggarbage as a fuel. Garbage that burns easily, such as food scraps and paper, must be separated from metals, glass, and other materials that do not burneasily. This separation process is normally costly. Another problem is thatburning garbage can pollute the air. Our fossil fuel supplies are limited.Burning garbage might be one kind of energy source that we can use to help meetour energy needs. This method could also reduce the amount of garbage piling upon the earth.

What two problems can be solved by burninggarbage?
